This Mortar and Pestle is the perfect size and shape for quick and easy crushing of a small amount of spices. The mortar is not enameled inside, and neither is the pestle end, but that helps with the grinding action. I have had no trouble keeping it unstained and clean. I usually just wipe it out with a paper towel, but every few days, I put it into the dishwasher and it comes out gleaming. The outside glazing of this item is bit uneven -- definitely not like fine piece of porcelain! But overall, its sturdy, has a utilitarian look and gets the job done. I don't know what took me so long to get one of these. I use it everyday now.
