I don't think that there's anything wrong with using jarred sauce as a 'starter' when making pasta, lasagna, etc. and I really like this. It has no added sugar which is mandatory for me (I hate tomato sauces with sugar or corn syrup, there's no need for it and they're always sickeningly sweet to me). The ingredient list is short and simple and that speaks volumes to me - Tomato Puree (Water, Tomato Paste), Olive Oil, Salt, Onions, Carrots, Dehydrated Onions, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Spices....that's it, nothing artificial!! I doctor the sauce by sauteeing a few cloves of garlic in a bit of olive oil before adding the sauce to the saucepan and sometimes will add a tiny bit of dried basil (fresh if I have it), and that's it. The price point on this is excellent and I always keep 1-3 jars in my pantry for when a pasta craving strikes! I really think the value is phenomenal as is the quality.
