This item is not a back brace, however, post surgery the hard core back brace that was supplied was way too hard and caused pain. This is a good alternative as it provides light support, can be worn underneath and on top of clothing. It is extremely comfortable. Being a long time back pain sufferer, this is the first brace that I've been able to wear for long periods of time. It also breathes so if you use while exercising or during PT it remains cool and comfortable.
