My hopes for this product have been met and surpassed! I'm very choosy about my sunscreens, using exclusively Korean and Japanese products for the past 10 years (shout-out to the OG- Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel) and thusly have been accustomed to superior sun protection and cosmetically elegant formulations that hands down beat any Western brand I've tried. I haven't had even a hint of a tan in years (caveat: I'm 90% nocturnal, kinda like a lemur) and am committed to continuing that streak. I can confidently say that the Isle of Paradise SPF 50 Daily Defense Fluid is a very worthy contender for summertime HG status. It's a thin, runny beige liquid that spreads like a dream and absorbs quickly, leaving a non-sticky, radiant dewy finish. The beige tint disappears after application. It's immediately lightly hydrating and soothing with sodium hyaluronate, sodium gluconate, fructooligosaccharides, lactobacillus ferment, moringa and olive oils, and cica extract. There may be long-term brightening effects from niacinamide. If you have very dry skin or are in a cold climate, you will probably have to layer under a more intense moisturizer. I vary day to day depending on my skin's needs. This stuff layers with my other skincare beautifully and provides an awesome canvas for my base makeup. I find it somewhat extends the wear if my base products with primer like effects. Even though it comes out of the bottle beige, it applies clear and would work on every skin tone. It's a chemical sunscreen, meaning no white cast and I haven't observed any flashback (may revisit this review to update on that). I've reapplied a second, smaller amount after 4ish hours of wear and noticed a bit of pilling, but that could be attributed to the BB cream and powder I was wearing. After enough layers, pretty much anything will pill, but I figured it would be helpful to include that. It doesn't sting my very sensitive eyes. The component is very cute and holds 50 mls, equalling out to 25 2.5 ml (standard recommended amount) applications. At $33, that comes to $1.32 per face application, which is definitely on the pricier side. Fortunately, there are many less expensive options available in a similar finish. I should mention that I initially had trouble with the nozzle - it seemed clogged and wouldn't dispense the product, but that was an easy solve- I just poked a thumbtack through the opening and after that, I've had zero issues. I like that the nozzle is small as there's no risk of squirting out too much product. The description states that it has a pleasant jasmine fragrance, however there is no fragrance listed on the ingredient list. I find it to be very subtle, almost undetectable. My verdict? The Isle of Paradise SPF 50 Daily Defense Fluid is a lightweight, hydrating sunscreen skincare hybrid that packs a punch with a robust SPF 50 protection and dewy finish. It has great lasting power, does not irritate my sensitive skin and reapplications layer well. If you're in the market for a facial sunscreen with a radiant finish, I'd recommend this!
