Intimina Ziggy Cup – Extra-Thin Reusable Menstrual Cup with Flat-fit Design

The Diva and other bell-shaped cups I've tried always leaked like crazy even after many, many tries. When I found Soft/Instead Cups a decade ago I was thrilled that they never, ever leaked and allowed for clean period sex. Unfortunately, they're plastic and disposable. So I was extremely excited when I read about the Ziggy Cup and now that I've used it for a couple of cycles, here are my thoughts:1. It is slightly larger than Soft Cups and it's a shame there is only one size available.-The larger size makes it harder to place behind the pubic bone, something I didn't even think about with Soft Cups because they went in smoothly and quickly and immediately created a seal.-Ziggy can sometimes cause a little pain when removing it. With Soft Cups, I'd break the seal by bearing down and then I'd hook my finger under the lip and pull it out. It'd usually come out quickly and smoothly with no discomfort. Ziggy, not so much. It begins to expand inside once you break the seal, which feels quite uncomfortable and requires more force to get out (ouch). I removed it after sex and couldn’t get it back in without its size causing pain so I had to switch to my Thinx for the night.2. Mess free period sex!-This is one area where Ziggy outshines Soft Cup. Soft Cup was mess-free as well, but if the cup was a little too full, it would have the opposite effect and there would be blood everywhere. I tried this on purpose with the Ziggy and there wasn't even a drop of blood.-My partner couldn't feel Ziggy at all. He could occasionally feel the Soft Cup and it sometimes bothered him and sometimes didn't. The jury is still out on this one. I'm going to come back and update on this after a few more tries.3. There’s a learning curve-The first few times I placed it, it leaked because I hadn’t tucked it behind my pubic bone properly. It took a few tries to get it right. I wore my Thinx in the learning phase as a backup, and I needed them. But eventually I got to the no-leak phase and I think I’m in the clear! I’ll update if that changes.-The larger end is inserted first, something that isn’t clear from the packaging.-Removing it is the same as with the Soft Cup: bear down, pull from the lip. It isn't any messier or cleaner during this process: there’s a fair amount of blood.EDIT: After using the Ziggy up for several more months, I've added a star. Every negative in my above review is quickly remedied with a little bit of practice. I love this cup. It has totally changed my life. If you're on the fence, definitely make the leap. It might take a couple of cycles to iron out all the links, but once you get used to it, you won't regret it.
