I bought an earlier version of these at Target when they were only available up to a size Large. They are the only reasonably priced support sleeve that have two flat metal support springs (on each side of knee location) that like a Slinky allow free movement forward and backward , but strongly compress in the vertical direction to provide good vertical compression support for the knee. All others , mostly of Chinese designs, mostly use a nylon rectangular rod for the side supports --that do not provide as good of vertical support. The only thing the Chinese and others have gotten right and 3M has gotten wrong is the sizing--you should order one size larger than their table recommends , for anyone older than say 25, who does not have an extremely small calf and thigh. BTW , the undersized (for me) large size from Target (recommended and largest size at the time) were murder on the blood flow but did provide needed support (trading strangulation pain for knee pain reduction)--go larger. Update #2, the Amazon description is wrong in claiming the side support inserts are still all metal, like the earlier version, they have degraded the vertical support even provided by Chinese's use of an all nylon full length support ,and now use the less effective metal flat side supports which have soft plastic end sections, that collapse in vertical loading before the metal portion can provide good vertical knee support(relief), which is not good news to see the venerable 3M is being outsmarted by the copyists.
