These are a staple of Central American cooking. Genuine made in Guatemala by the well-known Ducal brand. They are red beans and not pinto or black. They have a unique flavor with just the right amount of seasoning added. The consistency is perfect - not too liquid and not too thick. Warming them in a pan is easy. I found the flavor to be classic and usable in my recipes, including burritos, seafood plates, and Salvadoran "casamiento" which is a mix of rice and beans. Don't feel like dirtying a pan? Easy. Just tear the pouch partially open and zap it. I bought the box of 18, as we will certainly use them before the end date. Try a pouch with fish, chicken, rice or you name it.
