I eat a ton of rice since it's so versatile and one of my favorite foods. I eat pretty healthy too, and had to try this protein and collagen fortified rice when I saw it. First I attempted to analyze the ingredients; there are only 3. There's a LOT of protein in one of these bags: 28 grams. And I tend to eat a whole bag of this kind of instant rice on my own most times that I make it. The protein is primarily a product of the organic chicken broth, which is incredibly healthy. It also happens to be the first ingredient. Organic long grain white rice is the second. And finally there is added bovine collagen which is also high in protein. Since chicken broth already provides a good amount of collagen i was surprised to see bovine collagen as well, making me curious just how much collagen is in a serving. However I couldn't find that information anywhere on the package or the product description online. I'll assume it's a lot.The preparation directions recommend adding 2 tablespoons of water to completely hydrate the rice for cooking. I did notice that this rice seems to be slightly more hydrated than most of the rice that comes in these popular small serving plastic bags. It also seems slightly sticky, likely a result of the broth and collagen. I've only tried the unseasoned plain rice from Batch and I have to say the taste and texture on its own are pretty mediocre. It wasn't until I added salt, pepper and tried adding some other flavors that I found the taste to be more acceptable. However it still wasn't a rice I'd choose for the taste. However I would say it's probably the best way to get a good amount of collagen in your diet. I've tried straight up collagen supplements added to different beverages and I can't say any of them were very pleasant. I would much rather eat this rice to get my dose of collagen. But collagen is not high enough on my list of supplements to want to pay this much for it, although it should probably be more of a priority for me and my aging skin and joints. I'd rather sip on some hot bone broth at a more reasonable price. But for some who are eager to get a healthy dose of collagen and don't mind the expense, this is surely a good way to get it.
