For the last few months I've been focusing on taking better care of my skin after decades of neglect. I've discovered that hyaluronic acid works really well for both my skin and hair. When I spotted this "Peptide Lip Perfector - Hydrating Lip Treatment With Tripeptide-1 & Hyaluronic Acid - Peppermint Lip Balm for Smooth, Plump-Looking Lips" by Alpha-H, I wanted to try it.When the lip balm arrived, I couldn't find a manufacturing or expiration date printed on either the box or the tube. Both were labeled with what I'm assuming is a lot number and that it's made in Australia. I've tried a few other Australian products and have been happy with the quality.The tube is soft plastic and the applicator tip feels like silicone to me. It's easy to squeeze a pearl of balm out and the applicator tip is comfortable for spreading it. The inside of the cap includes a small stem that fits into the tip, which I think is designed to help keep the applicator from becoming clogged. It's a small detail that, for me, reflects a thoughtfully developed product.I'm fragrance sensitive and I appreciate that the listing title mentions peppermint. I've never had any issues with peppermint so I thought this could be a good fit for me. The peppermint is so subtle that I barely detect the scent or flavor. I was a little disappointed by how mild it is because I usually enjoy the light cooling tingle peppermint can provide. That said, some people may prefer a more subtle scent, so I can understand why it's used sparingly.The feel of this on my lips is definitely more like a balm rather than a silky lip gloss. If you're looking for something that adds shine or has a slick feel, this might not be the best match. To me, it feels more like a hydrating protectant. I wouldn't describe it as being sticky but when I first apply it, it feels a little "tacky" until it absorbs.We had a cold dry winter and lately it's been very windy, so my lips have constantly felt dry. I've been using this balm for almost a week and it feels like it's helping improve the dryness. The dry ring around the outer edge of my lips that I've had all winter is gone. I notice the balm's performance the most when I'm outside in the wind because I don't find myself continually licking or moistening my lips.Right now I tend to reapply a small bead two or three times a day, which is similar to how often I usually apply lip balm during the winter. During our humid summers, I typically only apply lip balm when I'll be outside for an extended time and want one that contains sunscreen. It wish this balm included SPF.I have maturing skin and it seems like my lips are becoming drier and thinner with age. For me, hyaluronic acid helps my skin hold onto moisture, so I was hoping to see something similar from a lip product containing it. While it doesn't work miracles, my lips do look and feel a bit more hydrated and slightly plumper when I use it. The difference is subtle but noticeable to me.I don't wear much makeup, so I can't really speak to how this balm would perform layered under lipstick.Overall, I'm really happy with this lip balm. The addition of sunscreen and printing the expiration date on the product would both add value for me. At the time of my order, 15 mL (0.5 fl oz) costs $30, which makes it more expensive than many other lip balms that contain hyaluronic acid. That said, this feels like a high-quality product with a good ingredient list that may justify the higher price. If it's within your budget, I think it's a solid option.
